Seagull eating Pigeon, oil on canvas, 30 x 40cm

Within the symbolism of my work, pigeons are seen in their capacity to carry messages, like messenger pigeons. In this piece, a pigeon is being eaten in a quasi-cannibalistic way by a seagull, which is actually a common occurrence in nature. It reflects upon our current digital life, with Trojan horse programs such as Pegasus leading to continual surveillance and the subsequent effect of self-censorship. It’s a small-scale, humble painting-sketch, with far-reaching ideas on the power and necessity of metaphorical symbolism in an age of rising authoritarian tendencies.
